The area’s VDOT is gearing up for the winter season. This year, one of its plows will stand out from the others. Decorated with a large winter scene featuring Northern Neck deer frolicking in the snow, the plow was designed and painted by a group of Westmoreland High School art students.
Under the direction of WHS art teacher, Holly Ransone, the students worked as a team on their project based learning assignment. Mrs. Ransone noted that her students “had to work together as a team. They learned how to delegate duties and determine who was best as what task.” One of the main hurdles was working with enamel paint and another obstacle was working on a curved surface. She noted that many of the students found that they were quite “good” with their specialties.
This year’s VDOT plow artists included Natiya Brown, Briana Cardenas, Atlas Carlise, Adriana Jaime-Torres, Whitnee Rotenizer, Avian Wright, Matt Benson, Reagan Dunaway, Rickey Fortune. They have been working on this PBL project since the last week of September.
The plow will be part of the upcoming Warsaw Christmas parade.
